A building façade from BEMO and an aluminum roof skin with a golden look give the new district of Kirkjusandur in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik a special appearance. In the last two years, a unique mixed settlement has arisen in the city right on the beach. As part of this new district, the “Stuðlaborg” building has 77 apartments and is arranged in an unusual shape. The appearance of the building is broken, as if it consists of several separate buildings. The BEMO team was called in for the planning and implementation, and with its flexible and individually adaptable roof and façade systems, it offered the ideal solution for the architects’ ideas.

The building complex was designed by the award-winning and world-renowned Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen together with VA architects. BEMO was asked to support the project with the planning and delivery of façades and roof profiles. BEMO BOND-INVISIO panels were used in the building façade. Despite the high wind load of up to 3.7 kN/m², the 4mm BEMO-BOND A2 composite panels measuring 3400 x 650mm could be invisibly and securely fixed with our patented system. All edges were closed, and the joints backed with profiles of the same colour.

As a special eye-catcher, both the building façade with all connecting profiles and the entire roof with its aluminum roof skin were designed in the same “golden” colour. A BEMO N50-333 standing seam in 1.0 mm aluminum was therefore used in the roof. The completely penetration-free aluminum roof skin is also perfectly suited to high wind loads and corrosive weather. By using durable aluminum with a high-quality coating, we offer a very sustainable implementation even for extreme environmental conditions.
